I am everyone who has ever written a novel and tried to get it published--500,000 of us a year. Since only 50,000 books are published each year, and perhaps only 100 are by first-time novelists, getting published is like winning a lottery. (It's not, but it feels like it!) But someone does win. This year maybe it will be me.
